The Story of WEBIT

Since 2003, WEBIT successfully completed 7 local cycles and two regional ones; the following is a brief of each:

WEBIT Amman 2003 :Sponsored by Emirates Airlines, the first cycle of WEBIT (previously known as WEBEX) took place in Le Meridian Amman hotel in December 2003 under the slogan of (YOUR JOURNEY INTO E – SPACE).
The show was focusing on E business Applications and was mostly interested in WEB and INTERNET technologies.
Considering being the first cycle, the exhibition enjoyed a very big success at all levels and aspects (visitors, exhibitors. Media coverage, etc…)

WEBIT Amman 2004 : For the second year, WEBIT (under the name of WEBEX) was organized in Le Meridian Amman hotel in July 2004.
The exhibition continued focusing on E business Applications and INTERNET technologies. But as the show was running in its second cycle, it experienced a significant growth in terms of participants, especially the regional and international presence.
And for the first time, Jordan telecom (currently known as ORANGE) was one of the event’s main sponsors.
WEBIT also experienced a big jump in terms of media coverage and visitor counts. A one proof of that was Al Jazeera famous channel sponsorship of the event.

WEBIT Amman 2005 : As in the second cycle, WEBIT was sponsored again by Al Jazeera of Qatar in addition to the Egyptian ISP TE Data and the Arab law info portal.
The exhibition was organized in Hyatt Amman hotel for the first time and ran in the period of May 2005.
The show continued focusing on E business Applications and INTERNET technologies with a limited introduction of IT and Telecom sectors.
Repeatedly, there was remarkable growth in terms of participants, media coverage and visitor counts.

WEBIT Amman 2006 :This was the fourth cycle of the event and the first with the new name “WEBIT”.
The name change was to introduce new horizons to the exhibition’s focus. As a result of that, there was a strong participation of IT companies and telecommunication organizations such as Zain, Globitel, Arabic textware, Risck, Kindi soft, Global star, etc…
This introduction of new exhibiting sectors did not compromise the original theme of the show where E business and INTERNET participants kept occupying the major part of the exhibition.
The event was organized in Hyatt Amman hotel for the second year and ran in the period of May 2006.
WEBIT 2006 was sponsored by the giant finance group “Orion Holding Overseas” together with New York Institute of Technology “NYIT”, SAMA telecom, The Egyptian telecom group “TE Data” and Amman Municipality.
Alrai News paper was the official media and press partner of the exhibition

WEBIT Amman 2007 :WEBIT saw remarkable growth in its fifth cycle, with key support from sponsors like "The Housing Bank for Trade and Finance" and partners such as "Jordan University for Science and Technology." Half of the exhibitors were from the IT and telecom sectors, with major global players like Microsoft, DELL, AMD, and ESRI GIS joining for the first time. The event featured an international conference attracting delegates from 40+ countries, and media coverage surged.
Academic visitors benefited from free transportation, and free parking was provided for attendees. These factors led to record-breaking attendance, both in quantity and quality. The introduction of the WEBIT forum provided exhibitors with a platform for presentations and lectures.

WEBIT Kuwait 2006 and WEBIT Syria 2007 : After the huge success of WEBIT as an exhibition and as an idea in Jordan, the expo took the shape of a road show moving from one Middle East country to another.
Accordingly, WEBIT was organized by the Kuwaiti group E Cinex in May 2006 in parallel to WEBIT Amman 2006 and was a good success for a first cycle. WEBIT Kuwait was sponsored by YAHOO Middle East and enjoyed a wide public and private participation by Kuwaiti and gulf organizations.
Like that, WEBIT Syria was organized in March 2007 in parallel to the fifth cycle of WEBIT Amman. The Syrian copy of the show achieved a well recognized exposure in its first year gathering more than 75 exhibitors from Syria and the region. The biggest achievement of the Syrian WEBIT was the huge and extensive media coverage provided by the Syrian press to the event and the significant support furnished by the Syrian officials and government to the organizers.

WEBIT Amman 2008 :The sixth local cycle of the event and the 8th cycle locally and regionally, WEBIT returned back to the original venue of Le Meridien Hotel Amman – Grand Conference Hall.
WEBIT continued its rapid growth since foundation in 2003 but such growth was mainly demonstrated through the size of audience and the quality of the media coverage as most of the local media outlets and news portals provided an extensive coverage and promotion to the show which eventually reflected on the huge traffic by visitors.

WEBIT Amman 2012 :After 4 years of stoppage, The 9th cycle of WEBIT took place in Greater Amman Hall, Al- Hussein Sports City in the period (July 9th –11th , 2012)
It was the first cycle where smart phones, mobile apps and social media had a part in the show.
In spite of the big success of this cycle along with huge visitors traffic supported by the unprecedented media coverage by local TV’s and Radio’s such as Roya, Mazaj FM, JRTV, etc.… but the change in the digital arena with the early days of smart gadgets and mobile apps as well as the rapid growth in social media, all of that forced us to take a break allowing us to revisit our concept and wait for this new revolution to mature and take shape.
Accordingly, a decision was made to pause for few years and come back stronger, better and more focused.

Now, we feel it is the time for SMARTECH to emerge…
